Buckeye Bargains

Location/Directions

Located on Campus at 53 West Eleventh Avenue.
The easiest way to get there is from High Street and go west on 11th Avenue. We’re in the brick house at the corner of College and 11th. There is one 30 minute  loading space in the rear of the building. Volunteers are provided parking passes once they register for a schedule.

Making the Impossible, Possible

Established in 1966, Buckeye Bargains is The University Women’s Club thrift shop. The shop is operated by volunteers who are members of the University Women’s Club and it serves the members of the University community as well as the community at large.  All merchandise and worker’s time is donated and 100% of the proceeds go to The UWC of Ohio State Scholarship Fund administered by the Office for Student Financial Aid.

Today, Buckeye Bargains sells a vast array of items for very little cost, yet donating substantially to the UWC Scholarship Fund. In 2023-2024, the shop’s contribution to the Marjorie Fawcett Scholarship Fund and Nina Weigel Scholarship Fund totaled $44,000!  Because everything is donated, including the workers’ time, Buckeye Bargains has become not only a labor of love but also, some of the best fun to be had anywhere.

We are the only Club in the Big 10 Conference that has a physical on-campus thrift shop and have become a favorite thrift shop of many OSU students and staff.

Buckeye Bargains History

It all started in 1966 when there was a move to create a way to serve the University and its communities.  The result was the formation of a thrift shop that the members named Buckeye Bargains.  Through the assistance of Marjorie Fawcett, the wife of the OSU president, Buckeye Bargains opened in the old veterinary surgery theater at 17th & Neil, across the street from University Hall.

Today, Buckeye Bargains sells a vast array of items for very little cost as a convenience to our OSU population, yet donating substantially to the UWC Scholarship fund.

More Information

All proceeds from Buckeye Bargains go to the UWC Scholarship Funds,  which provide scholarships for OSU students.

We emphasize clean, current and in working order for all donations. If you have dishes, kitchen items, (no knives) glasses, small appliances, clean wearable clothing,(new socks only) jewelry, linens, sheets, towels, blankets or other usable household goods, please consider donating them to Buckeye Bargains! We do not have the space to accept large furniture. A dated and signed tax receipt is provided for your donations, or a BB worker can stamp, sign and date your own itemized list.

Also, merchandise can be brought to the monthly UWC luncheons or picked up by special arrangement. Click here to arrange a special pick up.
